March 2015 Vestry Meeting

Posted by Mary Martha Churchman on with 0 Comments

The Vestry begins each meeting with devotions, a prayer led by a different member each month, and ends each meeting with Compline, led by the rector. Other members are tasked monthly with bringing snacks, keeping track of time to make sure the agenda is covered without extending the meeting too late into the night, and making sure the church is locked up when we leave.

At its March meeting, the tri-chairs of the Capital Campaign and Renovation committee updated the Vestry on the progress of the Capital Campaign. The committee is currently following up with members whose pledge has not yet been received. The fund raising phase is expected to be completed by the end of April.

The Vestry voted to establish a new Renovations Committee to continue the work after the current committee has completed its charge to assess the building possibilities and raise funds in order to accomplish the vision of Making a Space for All. The charge of the new committee is to work with the architectural firm selected (Geier, Brown and Renfrow) to identify the renovations that can be realized given the pledged contributions and the expected cash flow, explore additional possible funding sources, develop a plan to ensure ongoing worship and meeting space during the construction phase, and to arrange for daily oversight during construction. At all critical decision points, the committee will report to the Vestry for approval.

David Grahn, Elena Keydal, and Michael Woods, who have ably served as tri-chairs to this point, will provide continuity by serving on the Renovations Committee. In addition, official members of the committee will include the Rector and Minister of Music. The final member is Michael Deming, an active member of the congregation who is an architect by profession. The following liaisons to the committee will assist as needed: Anna Alt-White (Junior Warden) Vestry liaison, Catherine Campbell, San Jose Vicar and liaison, George DiFilippi, Treasurer and Finance Committee liaison, and John Dumsick, structural engineer and Building and Grounds committee liaison. In addition the Vestry charged the Renovations Committee to establish a process to seek the advice of members of the congregation who have special skills and talents in areas relevant to the committee’s activities.

In other routine business the Vestry approved the expenditure of budgeted funds for Easter flowers and instrumental musicians. Members of the Vestry will provide festive coffee hours after both Easter morning services.
