August Vestry Update

Posted by Mary Martha Churchman on with 0 Comments

The Vestry took a mini-vacation this summer and did not meet on the regular third Wednesday in August. The meeting was rescheduled for September 1, but when the Renovation Committee report expected to be ready for consideration by then was delayed, that meeting was cancelled, in the absence of any urgent business. The September meeting will take place on the regular schedule.

In the meantime, however, the Vestry took two electronic votes on time sensitive but non-controversial issues, under procedures adopted within the last decade to allow email votes on such matters. Whenever a resolution is proposed for electronic voting, a two part motion is introduced – first to concur in conducting business by email and second on the substantive issue. Any Vestry member can decline to agree to the electronic ballot. If that happens (it never has), a special meeting would be convened if necessary, or the issue would be deferred until the next scheduled meeting.

The first measure passed in August by electronic ballot was to authorize the expenditure of funds to purchase new torches to replace the worn-out and unsafe torches that were in use. The second measure was to adopt the annual audit report.

Also in August, Vestry members who had not previously taken the Diocesan training required of all parish leaders regarding Misconduct Prevention completed the on-line modules provided by the Diocese.
