Food Pantry
One of St. George’s major outreach ministries is our Food Pantry, which provides food to hungry people in Arlington. From 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday, volunteers provide food, hot and cold drinks, smiles, Bibles upon request, and a place for respite in the chapel. HOST Program
St. Georgians are feeding God’s people through the HOST program! In partnership with A-SPAN, the volunteers for HOST (Helping Others, Setting Tables) invite our homeless neighbors into the Parish Hall (or sometimes Room 114) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings for coffee, conversation, nourishment, and contact with A-SPAN case workers. Arlington Winter Shelter
Each winter night, November through March, a local non-profit organization operates an emergency winter shelter for homeless people in the Courthouse area. Teams of St. George’s volunteers provide assistance at the shelter on Sunday evenings for the five months the shelter is open.
CROP Hunger Walk
Arlington’s CROPWalk is an annual fundraiser for relief of local, national, and world hunger sponsored by the Arlington Interfaith Council. Members and friends of St. George’s walk every year. St. George’s is also an early stopping point on the walk (providing water, cookies, and rest rooms).
Meals on Wheels
Through the local Meals on Wheels organization, St. Georgians deliver prepared meals to Arlington residents who cannot shop or cook for themselves.
Plot Against Hunger
St. George's EYC (Episcopal Youth in Community) built and maintains a Plot Against Hunger garden at St. George's. Plot Against Hunger is an Arlington-wide program with the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Local organizations and individuals grow fresh vegetables and donate their harvest to AFAC to be distributed to those in need in our community. EYC's 2015 garden has already produced over 100 pounds of fresh vegetables to AFAC.
cHRISTMAS IN AUGUST
In August, St. George's Outreach Committee partners with Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing for its APAH Backpack and School Supply Drive. Parishioners bring in much-needed school supplies and celebrate "Christmas in August" with cookies, carols and a tree.
Beyond our own church
Iglesia San José
Iglesia San José, the oldest Episcopal Hispanic mission in our diocese, began in 1976 as a ministry of St. George’s Church. San José provides Spanish language worship, Christian education, and outreach to the Hispanic community. St. George's and San José come together several times a year for worship and fellowship.
Episcopal Diocese of Virginia's Annual Council
Members of our parish serve as delegates to the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia’s Annual Council, which meets each February, and to Region 3 of the Diocese of Virginia (the nine Arlington Episcopal congregations), which meets each month in September through June.
United Thank Offering
Twice a year—in the spring and the fall—the United Thank Offering asks us to deposit coins in blue collection boxes in thanksgiving for all the good things God has given us. Then, members of the Episcopal Church Women use the funds raised by UTO to make grants to mission projects in the community and around the world.
